2020 Finished Project 5

This project is something I am hoping to make for myself with some additional features for myself (being that I have a Maths degree) but the first one was going to the son of my university friend (Maths too) and who is now an accountant.

The pattern is from Lori Holt‘s book Spelling Bee. I have all or Lori’s quilting books yet have made only a few projects so I was excited to make use of this one. It also gave me a fun use for my stash of Ombre Confetti by V&Co (I ordered my bundle from Olive and Flo Handcraft… Saira is the best of the temptresses with fabulous customer service so huge shout out to her).

The pattern in the book is split out in two sections. First the individual blocks then instructions to piece together the sampler quilt. I spent the production of this quilt flitting between the two sections but that was because I wanted the sashing on the blocks as I was making them. So if like me, then it is totally doable to make your life more difficult.

The pattern is 100% cut and piece… no foundation paper, no y-seams and no hand sewing required. I would say though that I would label your cut pieces to make life simple or cut and sew each block one at a time. I did neither of those things and got pieces mixed up and ended up having to really get use out of my unpicker.

This was quilted simply with organic straight lines and bound with some lime green I hand left over from Project 6 of 2020. (And again I had to utilise the photography skills of the recipients because I am terrible at remember to take them).

What project have you made for someone else that you want to make again for yourself?

See you on Saturday
