2020 Finished Project 6

This is another one that I see myself making several times. This pattern is by Elizabeth Hartman who is famous for her animal designs. I purchased her Koala pattern from the lovely Saira at Olive and Flo Handcraft (yes I have mentioned her shop before… who do you think gets most of my salary).

All of Elizabeth Hartman patterns are cut and piece and her instructions are super easy to follow. Tips I would definitely suggest when making her patterns though..

  1. Make sure you use a scant quarter inch (Quilt Addicts Anonymous has a video on youtube if you haven’t done this before).
  2. Label your pieces especially if doing her bigger sampler quilts.

This quilt is the small quilt but the pattern also has instructions for a large quilt and a pillow.

I managed to cut this (along with two other quilts) on a Saturday then a couple of weeks later I joined the Oxfordshire Modern Quilt Guild on zoom, and assembled it (plus two other quilts), therefore this is definitely a quilt I would say can be completed in a day.

The recipient of this quilt had a unknown gender at the time of making so I wanted something that was neutral. My friend who was pregnant with said recipient is a huge fan of animals so a Hartman pattern was an easy choice.

Then this gorgeous boy was born but I was super late getting it quilted for him. Again i wanted the quilting simple so it was another organic straight line quilt. Here is this beautiful boy at 4 months old just loving life despite lockdown. He is even wearing his giraffe onesie to carry on the animal theme.

What are your favourite Hartman patterns? Are you like me and have a whole bunch you have piled up to try?

See you on Thursday
