Christmas Log Cabin
This is one of my favourite quilts for this year. Though it was a gift for my beautiful niece for Christmas 2019. The quilt is made from fabrics from the lovely Kate Spain who is one of my favourite designers for Moda.
I started this with a jelly roll (42 x 2.5″ width of fabric strips) and a panel from the Kate Spain Flurry Range. I split the strips into three main colours.. red, blue and green. Calculating what size strips I needed for my log cabin, I cut the necessary strips starting with the longest length first (this will maximise the efficiency of you jelly roll strips). I then assembled the below quilt top .

Using the panel I then cut two borders for the top and bottom of the quilt. Border panels are extremely useful for extending quilts especially if you like rectangular quilts. Usually I am a square quilt kinda girl but the quilt I made for my nephew (niece’s older brother), and my son, are both rectangular and I can’t have her think that she is getting something different.
The back was a pieced backing using several christmas fabrics I purchased on sale at the end of the year that happened to match the Flurry fabric. Quilting was then done by the fabulous Abigail from Cut and Alter.
Binding was made from the offcuts left over from the backing. I loved how I was able to line up the wording so it framed the quilt.

Have you made any Christmas quilts using panels? How about a log cabin quilt?
See you on Saturday
