Finished Project number 4 is a geeky themed Chevron quilt for a little boy born at the end of 2019. I made the top at the Modern Quilt Club Retreat in October 2019 and it lay in my pile of unfinished tops until July 2020.
These fabrics were primarily chosen because of his dad who is a major fan of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Nintendo. We had a conversation once in work that if he could have any quilt made it would be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I told him how much it would cost and it wasn’t something that was in his budget but everyone knows I am a sucker for making baby quilts.
The quilt itself is made up of Half square triangles made using the Shelly at Coral +Co Modern Sewing has a good tutorial on her blog but just google “4 at a time HST” and a whole host of videos and written tutorials will pop up. Each set of 4 triangles is made from a plain yellow square and a print fabric. I complain a lot about half square triangles because I have to trim them and on quilts like this there is a lot to trim. However, I love the effectiveness of a HST block and all the different designs you can create from them.
To quilt it I decided to echo the yellow chevrons in hope that this would tone down the bright yellow and make the darker prints pop more. I will let you be the judge on how effective you think that was but I sent it to its new home rather pleased with how it looks.
Now I have to admit that with this project and a few others coming up, I needed to ask the recipients to take photos for me because in my excitement to finally finish and post them, I totally forgot to do it. Can anyone relate?
What patterns do you like creating with the half square triangle block?
See you on Saturday
